What Is The best Immune System Booster

The general consensus is, healthy food and a healthy lifestyle will go a long way to improve overall health and help the immune system stay strong.

A varieties of dietary suggestions for boosting the immune system include:

Vitamins C and E

Various berries (e.g. Goji, Strawberries, Blueberries)

Broccoli

Kale

Red cabbage

Beets

Spinach

Green Tea

Ginger

and many more

And of course some moderate exercise.



If you visit your local health store you will see a large selection of supplements to choose from, claiming to be immune system boosters. All these supplements are beneficial and will help to keep you healthy, but are they really boosting the immune system? Is it even possible to give the immune system a boost?

There is no scientific evidence that the immune system can be boosted. The consensus is, if you are in reasonably good health, your immune system is working as it should and cannot be supplemented to be more than it is.

It is more likely the case that the supplements are dealing with a specific lack that the compromised immune system is unable to deal with. So why are all these fruits and veggies considered immune system boosters? The answer may well be in the one thing they all have in common: all these fruits, vegetables and herbs are high in antioxidants.

Antioxidants are molecules that help defend your cells against oxidative stress, a state that has been linked to chronic diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease and many others.


Immune System and Oxidative Stress


The immune system is constantly working, 24 hours a day, to protect us from viruses, fungi, infectious bacteria and parasites. It is an extremely complex system of molecules and cells that researchers are still struggling to fully understand. If we want to support it then we must relieve the oxidative stress. We live in a very toxic world: the foods we eat, the air we breathe and the sea of radiation we are swimming in every day from cell towers, the over production of free radicals by the body etc. It is a miracle our immune system is working at all and a testament to how incredibly powerful it is.

Naturally we try to offset that with anti-oxidants , but are supplements the answer?

Imagine if all that toxic stress was removed and our immune system was free of that incredible burden.

If the body is compromised with an excessive oxidative burden and is relieved of that, it stands to reason that the immune system free of that burden will do what it is intended for - restore a healthy balance to the body. One could make the analogy between a computer system and the immune system. If your computer is infected with viruses the system stops working properly. If the virus infestation is extreme the computer may eventually crash and not work at all. If that happens an antivirus program is installed to eradicate the infection allowing the computer to return to normal functionality.

If our immune systems is over burdened with toxic stress, how can it work efficiently? If the toxicity is removed, it stands to reason that the system will recover it's normal function and will work as intended.

Up until now the various fruits and vegetables listed above were considered the best antioxidants. They are without doubt very good and where possible should be included in our dietary intake for balanced health.
